Hotel St. Dorothy

Create a visual identity for Hotel St. Dorothy, a boutique hotel in the Texas Hill Country.

Goal

The brand’s core inspiration was the client’s mother, Dorothy, who many of her friends and family often referred to as a saint. She was a mother of six by day and an extremely talented artist by night. In the year that would have been her 100th, Dorothy’s daughters began to concept a hotel to honor their mother’s memory. The project’s goal was to bring life to Dorothy’s inspirations – mid-century fashion and design, French luxury, floral watercolors, oil landscapes, and the love of her large family – to a structure built of river rocks in the center of the Texas Hill Country that she loved so dearly.

Strategy

Visual inspiration was sourced from her original art and her wooden box full of mid-century pin-ups and magazine clippings. From these, we developed a brand mark that captures the essence and legacy of Dorothy. We then paired the mark with a vintage color palette and polished fonts.

Two complementary, yet independent, mood boards were established for the main hotel as well as the featured lounge within it (Bar Leroy). Together, they reflect the key points of the hotel experience, and what it will feel like to check in, to dine, and to stay at Hotel St. Dorothy.

Results

Hotel St. Dorothy was a project that was near and dear to us. We worked closely with the client to build a brand that will remain a part of their family for generations. The result was a charming mid-century based logo and type with a vintage pink and green color palette. In addition to the hotel’s core branding, we created other hospitality elements to complement the hotel’s identity suite. We created a branding identity suite that extends to every part of the hotel’s experience – from business cards to shampoo bottles.
