Ben Milam Whiskey emerges on the market, setting a new gold standard for Texas.

Goal

Tell the story of Ben Milam Whiskey through the eyes of its makers and target audience. Born and bottled in Blanco, Texas, Ben Milam Whiskey came about from an Austin music influencer, Marsha Milam, who founded Unplugged at the Grove. We wanted to tell the story of the woman, the quality of the bourbon and the ancestor who’s name it honored. We aimed to create a website that stood up to the bourbon’s reputation – and that bar was set really high. At it’s debut at the San Francisco Spirit Competition, Ben Milam took home the double-gold, the same award Tito’s Handmade Vodka won it’s first year on the market.

Strategy

Ben Milam’s website project was completed in partnership with Red Fan Communications. Red Fan introduced us to an amazing brand and needed us to develop a platform to showcase it as it launched into the market. Founder Marsha Milam believes that people should drink whiskey like wine, savoring the nuances and unique flavor profile with each sip. This resonated with our team and we began to craft a visual story with her approach in mind.

Art Direction was tantamount to telling a new story about Texas whiskey. This story had to be bold, impactful and unique. We chose to work with the talented Austin photographer Wynn Myers, who helped us bring this vision to life (along with two beautiful Texas women, a cowboy, a horse named Annie, a folk-rock Texas band and a vintage blue truck).

Results

Ben Milam’s unique brand story is immediately apparent upon first impression. Online, the website’s messaging and visual stamp relay a tale of a modern, quality brand, rooted in history, and vouched by it’s awards. Ben Milam is for everyone, not just older men in a smoke-filled room. Ben Milam is meant to be enjoyed with friends and savored like wine. The website launched in time for the announcement of the whiskey’s double-gold win at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
